Ideen kulturintegrativer Nutzung des MFG-5 Geländes durch Studierende der Raumstrategie & Prof. Frauke Gerstenberg
98The MFG 5 area is located between the Kiel districts of Holtenau and Friedrichsort and has been open to the public since 2014. There are plans to build a new urban district on the former military site. In this context, Mfg5 Mäandern deals with alternative futures on the site. With reference to the planning ideas, we examine the qualities this space already has, and how these can be preserved and integrated into new planning structures. It will increasingly become a space for discourse through various on-site activities. As a result, the existing spatial qualities become visible. The Mfg5 Mäandern project questions the attributions and uses of open spaces and planned spaces.
As we understand it, spaces are continually created through doing. The intention is to trigger impulses in the area and to initiate an accompanying process that, over the course of the development, has the potential to give space to the social and cultural demands of the “Holtenau Ost redevelopment area” as a future neighbourhood. The project presented is just an impetus for further processes and interventions that can take place in this place. Pioneer uses offer urban society the opportunity to participate. Through them, cooperative, process-based planning is further inscribed into the buildings and the surrounding space. They are the basis for a long-term, community-oriented development of a lively district.
Following the process on the Mfg5 area, Frauke Gerstenberg will give an insight into the Haus der Statistics model project in Berlin.
We look forward to meeting, exchanging ideas and discussing further development opportunities.
