99Who runs the city?! – A sketch
with Felix Schmuck, Head of the “Urban Renewal & Urban Design” Department, City Planning Office, State Capital Kiel
Fritjof Kunze (Project developer and real estate acquisition agent)
& all participants
Who actually runs the city? Who decides what streets, squares and neighbourhoods look like, and how they are used? How do ideas become reality? And: How can I get involved here?
Urban development is often a lengthy process in which many gears have to mesh in order to achieve progress and actively shape the city. In addition to the needs of urban society, economic interests, political discussions and long-term considerations on quality of life, mobility and sustainability play an important role.
We will outline and discuss who the actors are and their tasks, how and when there are opportunities for creative participation in complex administrative processes, and what role culture can play in this, together with two practical experts using a real case study. Felix Schmuck is a trained architect who runs the urban renewal and urban design department in the city planning office of the state capital Kiel.
Fritjof Kunze is also a trained architect and works throughout Germany as a project developer and acquisition agent with a focus on Northern Germany, Hamburg, Berlin and Munich.
