going public – Of public interest is an ongoing series of artistic interventions and performances in Kiel's urban space, vacant properties and public places, curated by Sven Christian Schuch (Artistic Director spce | Muthesius).
In addition to the question of the relevance of art & design in everyday life, going public – Of public interest focuses on the acute need for and maintenance of critical stances on socio-political, ecological and structural issues.

An effective confrontation with these complex issues requires an open, transgenerational discussion, as we notice that forms of protest also have the potential to create further tensions and harden opinion fronts. At a time when opinions are formed within media bubbles whose algorithms deliberately ignore complex relationships, public places of encounter are all the more needed to break down destructive neo-capitalist automatisms.
going public – Of public interest is about breaking the boundaries, turning outwards, recognizing and occupying the urban space as a stage. Art is never detached from social contexts, but operates with its own language that can communicate concretely because it does not already provide answers.
The main question that is always being negotiated by going public – Of public interest is: How can contemporary art and design create sensual-aesthetic stimuli for thought? How can they offer meaningful interventions in the face of a seemingly never-ending series of crises?

About sp ce | Muthesius
For more than a century, the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design has been offering young people the freedom they need to conduct artistic and creative research, try things out and develop the future beyond the existing status quo.
sp ce | Muthesius is a visionary space in the heart of Kiel's city center that understands exhibiting as an independent, process-based research practice full of potential. It addresses questions relating to (re-)presentation, publicity and social discourse. Curatorial means are used to create aesthetic and sensual spaces of experience and thought for a collective social discourse. The expertise in the production and curation of discursive exhibition and event formats serves as an infrastructure for the going public - Of public interest project to create a rhizome with young artists across the entire city, to interact with all forms of artistic and creative means (performances, installations, sculptures, sound, light, objects) and to intervene in the hustle and bustle of the city.
