With her installations, Lara Meise creates surreal-looking spaces of exquisitely bizarre taste, which she uses performatively and which allow viewers to enter her inner worlds. Everything exhibited is highly personal, has a disarming effect due to its unrestricted vulnerability.
Immoderate in her desire for exaggeration and offensive flirtation with kitsch, she treats profound and serious topics with a lot of humor and a mixture of sparkling, sugary glamour and grotesque horrors, in an elegant and fun way.
The artist exhibits herself as part of the room: Using performances resulting from the spatial installation, she creates connections between the passers-by and the world behind the window glass.
The dynamics between observer and observed, between subject and object, make the shop window an exciting place of contradictions and exchange, a paradoxical simultaneity of closeness and distance, intimacy and publicity.
The performance cycle “Eleganter Lumpen in Zeiten der Dekadenz (The Memoir)“ ("Elegant Rags in Times of Decadence (The Memoir)"), which Lara Meise designed for the Pavilion at Ziegelteich, consists of four acts and reflects life from birth to death: the potential, the consumption, the wear and tear until the end, where she stages her own death as a bizarre punch line.
